Cancer Support Scotland (Tak Tent) is a national cancer support charity which was founded in 1980 by Professor Sir Kenneth Calman. Although in existence for over 28 years, Cancer Support Scotland is perhaps not as well known as we would like it to be and part of our remit is to raise the Cancer Support Scotland profile across a range of media. |
What does Tak Tent mean?
Tak Tent comes from old Scots and means "take care". The letters used in Tak Tent also have a great significance in what we do:
T = Trust and confidentiality
A = All ages and all backgrounds
K = keeping in touch
T = Time to talk
E = experiences shared
N = New friends
T = Time to listen |
A warm welcome awaits those who call at or phone the office, which is open every weekday. Staff and a highly commited volunteer team offer information and, more importantly, emotional support.
A 'quiet' room is used by a group of trained counsellors and therapists to help those who seek this much needed and extremely helpful support. |
