Cancer Support Scotland (Tak Tent) offers a number of services to cancer patients, their families and friends. It is quite important to remember that these services are not just for those who have been diagnosed as having cancer, in many cases, the family, friends and carers may also need this unique support.
In offering this range of services, we believe that Cancer Support Scotland is unique in this area. Firstly, we have 15 support groups in the communities where people live throughout west and central Scotland. |
One of our rather special support groups is called "conTAK" and is specifically for young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who are touched by cancer.
These support groups bring together cancer patients, relatives, friends along with professionals involved in cancer care. They support each other by sharing experiences and learning to live and cope with cancer. Each group usually meets once a month, however, informal contact can give you support between meetings. These regular group meetings answer the needs of many people for information, advice and a friendly listening ear as well as creating a social life for people who may be elderly and alone. |
Secondly, for people who need more than we can offer in these groups, we provide free counselling and complementary therapies. Donations from our clients help fund these services.
Thirdly, patients and their families may, from time to time, want information about the illness and possible treatment. It can be very reassuring to have something to read and to which to refer. For this reason, Cancer Supprt Scotland (Tak Tent) provides accurate and up to date information booklets on various cancers and treatments to patients and relatives, free of charge!! |
