A Tak Tent team of intrepid walkers has recently completed the 95-mile walk of the West Highland Way in six days. Bill Stewart our Chief Executive was accompanied on the walk by Susan and Harry Mooney, Joyce and John Duffy, Heather and Jack Johnston, Emma Leckie, Kevin Crilly, Shaun McGarrigle, Wilma McGarrigle, Marion McNeilly, Claire Scott, Jill Butler and Alan Crawford.

Sponsor money is still coming in but Bill expects that we should raise around £3500 ... much needed funds for Tak Tent. Bill says: “It was a great team effort from everyone involved. The walkers gave up their time and put in a lot of effort to complete what was a real challenge. The team received great back up support from Gordon Haggarty and his brother Douglas, who ensured that all their belongings and daily supplies of snacks and water were delivered to the next stopping place. Thanks are also due to Kwik-Fit for sponsoring the T-shirts as well as a very big thank you to AMK Self Drive, who very generously supplied a van for the use of our back up team. This enabled us to provide much needed support to the team of walkers. We need to also thank the many individual sponsors who generously supported the event.

Bill added: ‘The walk was tougher than I had envisaged but the scenery was fabulous, the company was great, and it is terrific to look back and say that the challenge was accomplished and that I don’t need to do it again!’ .... Not really true 'cos they are planning another walk next year.

Tak Tent have registered for the Big Fun Run (5K) in Glasgow on Sunday 9th September. We are now looking for runners to get sponsored and 'run' for Tak Tent. Once runners register with the Big Fun Run, we'll be given their name & address and we'll supply a T shirt or running vest and sponsor forms. After a remarkable recovery from a brain tumour, Shaun McGarrigle prepared himself to skydive from 13,500ft to raise funds for ConTak. Seven years and five operations following diagnosis, Shaun has beaten the odds, supported by his beautiful wife, Lynda, whom he met at a rehabilitation programme run by Momentum Scotland, and his lovely three-year-old son, Jack. Shaun's challenge in August this year saw him perform a tandem skydive at Strathallan airfield, Perthshire. As Gordon Haggerty says, "Shaun is a larger than life guy and has done a tremendous amount of work with the group. He is one of these remarkable people who makes us all feel humble".

Shaun would like to thank everyone who sponsored him, thereby helping to give emotional support to young people whose lives are affected by cancer, contact the main office.

Mags McPhilemy along with family and friends organised a sponsored football match in Blantyre on Friday 11th May, followed by a social night in the local Columba Club. Bill, Gordon, and Cathie Arbuckle - our Chairperson - enjoyed an entertaining match, with the Old Crocks beating the Young Guns a convincing 6-2! After the game everyone went back to the club for dinner and a disco. The football match and raffle at the disco raised a tremendous toltal of £1451 for Tak Tent. Our very grateful thanks go to Mags and her team. Well done to them.
